LEBANON, Pa. – Sophomore Rachel Kerr (Archbald, Pa./Scranton Prep) ran to seventh place as the top finisher for The University of Scranton women's cross country team at the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday at Union Canal Tunnel Park.
Kerr's effort helped the Royals finish fifth with 114 points. Elizabethtown took the team title with 42 points, edging Moravian's 46 points. Catholic was third with 81 points and Juniata nipped the Royals for fourth with 106 points.
Kerr picked up her third top-10 finish of the season by finishing the 6,000 meter course in 23:32.06, a career best for that distance by 28 seconds.
Sophomore Abigail Guziewicz (Peckville, Pa./Holy Cross) was Scranton's second finisher, placing 21st with a time of 24:25.61, a career best by 10 seconds. Sophomore Emily de Onis (Blue Town, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) was next, finishing 27th in 25:01.32, a new personal best by 40 seconds.
Freshman Lauren Usaitis (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Area) was right behind de Onis in 28th with a time of 25:01.43. It was her career best for 6,000 meters by 35 seconds. Freshman Amanda Maughan (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side H.S.) rounded out Scranton's top five by placing 36th with a time of 25:24.19. She eclipsed her previous career best by 15 seconds.
The women's cross country team now has two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 10, at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.
