Box Score If momentum plays a role in a basketball team's season, there are few teams who enter a game riding as high as The University of Scranton women's basketball team does right now.
The Lady Royals have won 13 straight games as they get set to host Landmark Conference rival Moravian College tonight at 7 p.m. in the Long Center. Scranton (15-2, 7-0) Landmark has not lost since a 61-57 defeat at Cabrini on Nov. 26, marking the team's longest winning streak since a 19-game run in 2008-09.
Scranton currently holds a 1½-game lead in the Landmark Conference over Moravian (14-3, 5-1 Landmark) and Catholic (12-4, 5-1 Landmark) as the teams near the midpoint of the conference season. Moravian was chosen first in the preseason conference poll with six first-place votes, with the Lady Royals a distant second with one first-place vote.
Last season, the team's split the regular season matchups with each winning at home. They then met in a highly pivotal Landmark Conference semifinal on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Moravian, with Scranton scoring a thrilling 72-71 victory that put them in the conference championship and likely secured the eventual at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Royals enter tonight's game ranked in a tie for 24th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 and 25th in the D3hoops.com Top 25.
Moravian has won six of its last seven, the only loss coming at Catholic, 82-77 in overtime, on Saturday, Jan. 18. They rebounded from that defeat to knock off Susquehanna, 67-65, at home on Saturday, Jan. 25, in their last game.
Tickets for tonight's game are $5 for adults (18-61) and $3 for students (8-17) and senior citizens (62 and older). All children ages seven and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted free. Students and staff members of Landmark Conference institutions will also admitted free.
