LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Junior forward Alexix Roman (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) once again led the University of Scranton women's basketball team in scoring with 22 points and 10 rebounds, as the 16th-ranked Lady Royals finished off the nonconference portion of their schedule on Monday afternoon with a 71-44 victory over Bridgewater as part of the 2015 Las Vegas Hoopla tournament.

With the win, Scranton remained unbeaten on the year at 11-0 and won their sixth straight contest by double figures. Bridgewater fell to 4-5 with the loss.

In the win, the first quarter was an offensive struggle between the teams, in which Scranton ended the period on a 10-2 run (breaking open an 8-8 tie) to take an 18-10 lead into the second quarter. There, the Lady Royals continued to play strong on the defensive end, outscoring Bridgewater 16-8 in the period to take a 34-18 lead into the break for halftime.

That lead proved to be too much for Bridgewater to come back from the rest of the second half, as the closest the Eagles came to the Scranton lead was 9 points late in the third quarter (45-36), as the Lady Royals quickly extinguished any hope of a comeback with a 9-0 run that bled into the fourth quarter that put Scranton up for good at 53-36.

From there, the Lady Royals coasted down the stretch in the fourth quarter, as Scranton ended the 2015 portion of their schedule on a high note with a 28 point victory on the West Coast.

Overall, Roman led the Lady Royals once again on the day with her double-double, the sixth of which for her on the year. She also continued her streak of double-digit scoring games, which now sits at 11.

Meanwhile, freshman guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) added 16 points and dished out eight assists, and junior forward Sarah Payonk (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) added 10 points and seven rebounds in the win.

For the second straight day, the Scranton defense had a strong outing. In all, the Lady Royals forced Bridgewater to shoot just 27 percent from the floor in the win, 13.3 percent from three-point range (2-of-15). They also held the Eagles to just eight points in both the second and fourth quarters, as well.

The University of Scranton women's basketball team will now take off the the Holiday season, returning to action on Saturday, January 2nd when they host Elizabethtown in Landmark Conference action. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. inside the John Long Center.
