Lady Royals Roll To Seventh Straight Victory, 74-47 At Goucher

TOWSON, Md. – Four players scored in double figures and The University of Scranton women's basketball team put forth yet another strong defensive performance in a 74-47 victory at Goucher on Saturday evening at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.

Senior forward Meredith Mesaris (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) had a team-high 18 points, senior guards Lia DiSciascio (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Lindsay Fluehr (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) had 14 each, and sophomore forward Sarah Payonk (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) had 13 as the 14th-ranked Lady Royals (22-2, 14-1 Landmark) won for the seventh straight time.

The victory marked the 13th time this season Scranton has held its opponent under 50 points. The Lady Royals held Goucher (4-17, 0-14 Landmark) to just 30 percent (18-for-60) from the field, including 1-for-9 from 3-point range. It was the ninth time an opponent shot 30 percent or lower against the Lady Royals.

On the offensive end, Scranton shot 45.6 percent (26-for-57) from the field, including 8-for-19 (42.1 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc. DiSciscio and Fluehr made a trio of 3-pointers each and Mesaris added two of her own. DiSciascio's three triples give her 142 for her career, sixth-most in Lady Royals' history.

Scranton also made 14 of 20 from the free throw line and held a 50-33 rebounding edge. DiSciascio and Mesaris tied for the team lead with seven rebounds, Fluehr had six and Payonk chipped in with five.

Fluehr capped her strong game with seven assists and two steals, marking the ninth game in which she has had seven or more assists. She is now just three rebounds shy of 500 for her career.

Freshman guard Briana Bull (Baltimore, Md./Owings Mills) led Goucher with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Lady Royals, who have clinched the top seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs, will wrap up their regular season when they host Catholic on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. in the Long Center. Following the game, the University will hold its annual athletics Wall of Fame induction ceremony.
