DALLAS, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team fought back from a five-run deficit to tie the game, but Misericordia scored 11 times in its final two times at bat to hand the Royals a 16-5 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Tambur Field.

The Royals (15-18) used a five-run sixth inning to tie the score at 5, and it remained that way going into the bottom of the seventh. The Cougars (27-10) scored once in that frame, then broke out for 10 runs in the eighth to hand Scranton the loss.

Sophomore second baseman Patrick Mergel (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) had a two-run double and sophomore center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had a two-run single to highlight the big sixth inning for Scranton.

Sophomore shortstop Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) finished with three singles, and Trotter and sophomore first baseman Anthony Caladie (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) each had a pair of hits to lead Scranton.

The Royals will be back in action on Thursday when they host Summit University at 4 p.m. at Connell Park.
