NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Sophomore Caroline Banas (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) continued her standout season for The University of Scranton women's track & field team, winning the high jump at the NYU Invitational on Friday at the New York City Armory.
Banas cleared 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches) to win for the third time in four events during the indoor season. She edged Cassie Cronk of Moravian by .05 meters (2 inches).
A pair of athletes from the men's track & field team added top-20 finishes in the event.
Junior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) finished 16th in the men's long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters (19 feet, 2 inches). Sophomore Keyser Leepier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) was 17th in the men's 60-meter dash, finishing with a time of 7.32 seconds. It was his best time of the season by .04 seconds.
The men's and women's track & field teams will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Marc Deneault Invitational at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
