Sophomore Caroline Banas (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) won the high jump and freshman Abigail Guziewicz (Peckville, Pa./Holy Cross) won the 5,000-meter run to lead The University of Scranton women's track & field team at the Monarch Open on Saturday at King's College.

Banas won the high jump by clearing 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5.75 inches), matching her own Landmark Conference outdoor record, which she set on April 7 at the Muhlenberg Invitational. She has now won the high jump in three of the team's four outdoor events after earning All-American honors in the event during the indoor season.

Guziewicz earned her first victory by crossing the line in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:37.34, the best time by a Royal in the event this season.

Scranton had nine total top-five finishes on the day. Banas had two of them, adding a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.87 seconds.

Three Royals picked up second-place finishes. Sophomore Nora Boussatta (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) was second in the 800-meter run in 2:27.45, the best time of the outdoor season for the team. Freshman Emily Way (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was second in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:10.32, another season-best for the Royals. And junior Emily Carr (Elmhurst, Pa./Scranton Prep) trailed only Guziewicz in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in a time of 20:02.61.

Sophomore Michaela Farrell (Kirkwood, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) was fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.81. Sophomore Chrissy Noonan (North Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.38 seconds.

The 4x100-meter relay team of junior Alexa Cardella (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea), freshman Bria DiBernardi (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community), sophomore Jasmin Russo (Hamden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) and Noonan also finished fifth with a time of 55.76 seconds.

The Royals will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6, when they compete in the Landmark Conference Championships at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa. Saturday's action starts at 9:15 a.m while Sunday's action starts at 9 a.m.
