ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior Kyle Robbins (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and junior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) both had third-place finishes to lead The University of Scranton men's track & field team at the team's first event of the outdoor season, the Muhlenberg Invitational.
Robbins finished third in the long jump with a leap of 6.15 meters (20 feet, 2.25 inches). He narrowly missed out on second place by just a quarter-inch.
Merli was third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.61 meters (41 feet, 4.5 inches). He was less than two feet of the winning distance of 13.16 meters (43 feet, 2.25 inches) by Misericordia's Olutobi Olugbenga.
Scranton also received four other top-10 individual finishes, led by sophomore Eric Bartlett (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), who finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:51.69.
Junior Stephen Grunbok (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) finished seventh in the 400-meter run in 51.87 seconds. Junior Matt Barrett (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) was ninth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:12.9, and sophomore Maxwell Greene (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) was 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:12.43.
The Royals are back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, when they compete in the Coach P Invitational at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa.
