BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's track & field team returned to action for the first time in 2019 on Saturday at the Moravian College Indoor Invitational held at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse.
Senior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) led the Royals by finishing 13th in the long jump competition with a leap of 6.29 meters.
Juniors Keyser Leepier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) and Maxwell Greene (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) also recorded top-25 finishes for the Royals. Leepier placed 25th in the 60 meter dash, clocking a time of 7.52 seconds, while Greene took 25th in the 3,000 meter run by crossing the stripe in 9:40.05.
Senior Connor Sharp (Gaithersburg, Md./Gonzaga College H.S.) also earned a top-30 result on the day, taking 26th place in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 24.63.
The Royals had two other competitors finish in the top-35 of their respective events as senior Andrew Charway (Irvington, N.J./Christ the King Prep) claimed 32nd place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.17 seconds while freshman Alexander Schwabe (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) took 33rd place in the 60 meter dash by posting a mark of 7.69 seconds.
Scranton will return to action next Saturday at the Susquehanna University Challenge starting at 9:30 a.m. in Selinsgrove, Pa.
