Men's Track & Field Posts Four Top-10 Finishes at Marc Denault Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Scranton men's track & field team brought home four top-10 finishes on Saturday at the Marc Denault Invitational hosted by Cornell University while competing against NCAA Division I, II, and III programs.

Sophomore Matt Kinback (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) turned in an outstanding effort in the 800 meter run, clocking a time of 2:01.38 to finish seventh in the race.  His time was the sixth fastest in the event in the Landmark Conference this winter.

Senior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) continued his strong indoor season with a pair of top-10 finishes.  He placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.55 meters while taking seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.95 meters. 

Freshman Brian Madden (Stony Point, N.Y. / North Rockland) cracked the top-10 of the Landmark Conference in the 60 meter hurdles in his collegiate debut in the event, finishing ninth in the preliminary round with a time of 9.74 seconds.

In the 400 meter dash, junior Thomas Canny (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) clocked in at 56.28 seconds, setting a new personal record by a second while finishing 11th in the race.

Freshman Alexander Schwabe (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) also clocked a personal record time in the 60 meter dash, crossing the stripe in 7.58 seconds to finish 18th in the preliminary round while junior Keyser Leepier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) was 13th in the prelims with a mark of 7.49 seconds.

Scranton will compete in the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships next Saturday.  The meet will be held at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. with the action slated to kick off at 9:30 a.m.
