Men's Track & Field Finishes Sixth at Landmark Conference Indoor Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's track & field team finished sixth out of seven teams on Saturday at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Susquehanna University.  The Royals totaled 19 points on the day and had five top-five results in the meet.

Sophomore Matt Kinback (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail), senior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View), and junior Maxwell Greene (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) had individual top-five finishes to lead Scranton the day. 

Kinback finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.37 while Merli had top-five results in both the triple jump and the long jump.  In the triple jump, Merli took fourth with a leap of 12.37 meters while his mark of 6.42 meters in the long jump was good for fifth place.

Greene brought home a fifth place finish in the 3,000 meter run, clocking in at 9:01.91, shattering his previous personal record by 27 seconds. 

The Royals set a new school record in the 4x200 meter relay as junior Keyser Leepier (Scranton, Pa./Scranton), freshman Ian Lewis (Scranton, Pa./Scranton), freshman Alexander Schwabe (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood), and senior Connor Sharp (Gaithersburg, Md./Gonzaga College H.S.) finished fourth with a school record time of 1:38.96.

Scranton finished sixth in the 4x400 meter relay as Kinback, freshmen Alexander Belotte (Elmont, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), junior Thomas Canny (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei), and freshman Alexander Badman (Yardley, Pa./Conwell Egan Catholic) finished the race in 3:43.88.

Sharp added a seventh place finish in the 60 meter dash, crossing the stripe in 7.53 seconds while freshman Phil Cocco (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) enjoyed a personal best mark in the shot put, placing seventh with a heave of 12.27 meters.

Lewis brought home a ninth place result in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 24.64 seconds while Sharp was 10th in the event.

Freshman Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was ninth in the 3,000 meter run by posting a personal record time of 9:15.37 while freshman Sean Connolly (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) also established a new personal record in the race, placing 13th with a time of 9:35.76.

Scranton will kick off the outdoor season on Saturday, March 23 at the Golden Ram Collegiate Invitational hosted by West Chester University.
