Charway, Merli Lead Men's Track & Field at King's Holiday Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior Andrew Charway (Irvington, N.J./Christ the King Prep) finished second in a pair of events while Senior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) added a pair of top-five results to lead The University of Scranton men's track & field team at the King's Holiday Invitational held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Charway finished second in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 11.39 seconds. Charway also was the runner-up in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 22.94 seconds.

Merli finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.72 meters. Merli also recorded a fourth place result in the triple jump with a mark of 11.20 meters.

Freshman Ian Lewis (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) brought home a third place result in the 200 meter dash, finishing the race in 23.03.  Lewis also took sixth in the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.76 seconds.

Junior Chris Baldwin (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) took fourth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:28.49.

Freshman Phil Cocco (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) brought home fifth place results in the hammer throw and shot put. In the hammer throw, he posted a mark of 35.60 meters and checked in at 12.52 meters in the shot put.  Cocco also placed 10th in the discus with a toss of 27.61 meters.

Junior Thomas Canny (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) finished sixth in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 56.06 while freshman Varghese Pattara (South Abington Township, Pa./Scranton Prep) claimed sixth place in the long jump with a mark of 5.25 meters.

Freshman Conor Nealon (Duryea, Pa./Holy Cross) led the Royals in the javelin, placing eighth with a throw of 32.98 meters.

Scranton will return to King's on Saturday, April 27, for the Monarch Open starting at 9:30 a.m. The meet will be the final tune-up for the Royals before the Landmark Conference Championships which will be held May 4-5 at Goucher.
