Baseball Breezes Past King's, 10-2, in Non-Conference Action

SCRANTON - Sophomore Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the way, as The University of Scranton baseball team opened a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning over King's and never looked back, eventually rolling to a 10-3 non-conference win at Volpe Field on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Royals moved to 10-8 overall, as Scranton is winners of seven of their last eight games. King's dropped to 8-11 with the defeat.

In the win, Scranton struck first in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs to go up 2-0 on the visiting Monarch's. King's, however, cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the fourth, making it a 2-1 game entering the bottom of the frame.

But, in the last half of the fourth, Scranton scored four times to take what turned out to be insurmountable 6-1 lead after four full innings.

Scranton padded to the lead over the rest of the game, scoring a single run in the sixth to go up 7-1, then after a King's run in the top of the seventh made it a 7-2 game, the Royals plated three more runs in the bottom of the frame to go up by eight.

Over the final two innings, the Royals coasted, as they collected their fifth win of the year at Volpe Field by eight runs.

On the night offensively, Harding led the way with his 3-for-5, three RBI, two runs scored evening. Harding also successfully stole two bases in the win, as well.

Elsewhere, senior Ian McIntosh (Newtown, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) was the other Royal to have multiple hits on the night, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. In the extra base hit column on the evening, freshman Chris Wagner (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) had an RBI double and scored a run, while sophomore Kyler McAllister (Jefferson Township, Pa./Scranton Prep) had an RBI triple, while also scoring a run.

On the mound in the victory, sophomore relief pitcher Alex DeRosa (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) kept the King's line-up at bay for six full innings to earn his first win of the year (1-0), as he allowed just two runs while scattering nine hits on the evening.

King's was led in the defeat by Jonathan Hoyt who finished 3-for-4.

The University of Scranton baseball team returns to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Misericordia for a road non-conference contest. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
