SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Junior Matt Kinback (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) finished second in the mile and earned All-Landmark Conference Second Team honors to lead the way for The University of Scranton men's track and field team at the Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships that were hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday.
The Royals finished fifth in the team standings with 39 points, while Moravian captured the team title with 150 points.
Below are some of the highlights from Saturday's meet.
- Kinback took second place in a time of 4:19.68 which broke his own program record by nearly six seconds and was just over one second behind Elizabethtown's Samuel Gerstenbacher who won the event in 4:18.41.
- Senior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) recorded a pair of third place finishes for the Royals in the 60 meter dash (7.24) and long jump (6.79m). Freshman Michael Trought (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) finished fourth behind Merli in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.63 seconds.
- Sophomore Phil Cocco (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) finished fourth in both the shot put (13.19m) and weight throw (14.98m). Cocco's toss in the weight throw is a new program record.
- Freshmen Liam Mead (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) and Daniel Finning (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) both registered sixth place finishes on the day as Mead took sixth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:00.43, while Finning set a new program record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:57.50.
The University of Scranton men's track and field team will wrap up the indoor season at the AARFTC Regional Championships that will be held in Rochester, N.Y. on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7.
