BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) broke an outdoor program record in the 5,000 meter run and The University of Scranton men's track and field team finished second at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College on Saturday.
Here are some of the highlights from Saturday's action.
- McKeon captured the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:48.82, breaking the previous program record of 15:51.55 that had been set by Zach Gutekunst on May 5, 2019. McKeon's time of 15:48.82 is also the second best in the Landmark Conference so far this season.
- Freshman Aidan Corrigan (Mansfield, Mass./Bishop Feehan) registered a pair of second place finishes on the day for the Royals in the 100 meter dash (11.81) and 400 meter dash (53.67).
- Freshman Christian Di Troia (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) took third in the 100 meters in a time of 11.91 seconds and fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.08 seconds.
- Junior Phil Cocco (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) finished second in the shot put with a mark of 13.75m, breaking his own outdoor program record of 13.12m that had been set on April 27, 2019. Cocco also finished fifth in the hammer throw and broke another outdoor program record with a mark of 37.90m.
- Junior Varghese Pattara (South Abington Township, Pa./Scranton Prep) finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.86m and freshman Matthew Ginnetti (Pipersville, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) was third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.15m.
The Royals are back in action at the River Hawk Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday, April 17 beginning at 9 a.m.
