SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's track and field team won three individual events at the River Hawk Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday.
Here are some of the highlights from Saturday's action.
- Junior Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) won the 1500 meters in a time of 4:13.63, sophomore Liam Mead (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) won the 5000 meters with a time of 16:32.82 and junior Phil Cocco (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) won the shot put with a mark of 13.32m to lead the way for the Royals.
- This marks the second straight week that McKeon has won an individual event after winning the 5000 meters at last week's Greyhound Invitational.
- McKeon also finished second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:04.31.
- The Royals swept the top three spots in the 1500 and 5000 as junior Dan Gavin (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) and sophomore Ryan Maguire (Chester Springs, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished second and third behind Mead with times of 17:05.66 and 17:09.32, respectively in the 5000. In the 15000, freshman Timothy Lanahan (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) finished second behind McKeon in 4:20.28 and sophomore Stephen Haggerty (South Abington Township, Pa./Abington Heights) took third in 4:20.99.
- Freshmen Marcus Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) and Christian Di Troia (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) each finished third and fourth in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
The Royals are back in action on Saturday, April 24 at the Juniata Invitational.
