SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's track and field team put together an impressive performance at the River Hawk Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday as six different student-athletes won individual events.
Here are some of the highlights from Saturday's action.
- On the track, junior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) captured the 800 meters in a time of 2:32.78, just edging out freshman Olivia Tullman (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) who finished second in 2:33.00. Sophomore Ashley Benham (Portland, Conn./Portland) won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:14.87 and classmate Abigail Sheehan (Wyckoff, N.J./Academy of The Holy Angels) finished second in a time of 1:15.69, while junior Lindsay Notarianni (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) captured the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:16.94.
- In the field events, junior Ally Maniscalco (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) captured the pole vault with a mark of 2.66m, fellow junior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) won the high jump at 1.47m and classmate Christina Piscitelli (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) broke her own outdoor program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.33m.
- Piscitelli's mark of 39.33m is the second best in the Landmark Conference this season and the 10th best in the entire Division III Mideast Region.
- This is the third straight week that Maniscalco has won the pole vault.
- The Royals' 4x100 relay team of junior Ariana Baldwin (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), sophomore Fiona Burke (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), sophomore Lauren Tokash (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) broke a program record with a winning time of 52.24.
- Burke finished second in the 100 meter dash in 13.54 seconds and Gonzalez took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.55 seconds.
- Benham took second in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 18.15 seconds and sophomore Jasmine Ahmed (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) finished third in 18.30.
- Freshman Jessica Tsu (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream North) finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 9.88m.
The Royals return to the track at the Juniata Invitational on Saturday, April 24.
