ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – A trio of student-athletes won individual events for The University of Scranton women's track and field team at the Blue Jay Tune Up Meet hosted by Elizabethtown College on Saturday.
The Royals finished second in the team standings with 39.5 points. Here are some of the highlights from Saturday's action.
- Junior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) won the 1500 meters with a season-best time of 5:00.73, while sophomore Jasmine Ahmed (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) captured the 100 meter hurdles in 18.03 seconds. Ahmed just edged out classmate Ashley Benham (Portland, Conn./Portland) who finished second in 18.10.
- Junior Ally Maniscalco (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) won the pole vault for the fifth time in as many weeks with a mark of 2.75m.
- Benham also took second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.99 and fellow sophomore Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) finished second in the 200 meters with a new outdoor program record of 27.00 seconds.
- Sophomore Fiona Burke (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) posted a pair of third place finishes in the 100 (13.32, program record) and 200 meters (27.75).
- Junior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m, while freshman Olivia Tullman (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) finished third in the 1500 meters in a time of 5:13.95.
- Sophomore Darby Bennett (Panama City, Fla./Rutherford) added a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.61m.
The Royals will return to the track on Saturday, May 8 for the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Susquehanna University.
