Graduate student Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) finished fifth in the long jump to lead the efforts for The University of Scranton track and field teams on the second and final day of the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) hosted by St. John Fisher College on Thursday.
Merli took fifth with a new personal best and program record mark of 7.08m (23 feet, 2.75 inches) that he accomplished on his sixth and final attempt of the afternoon. The mark surpasses the previous record of 6.89m that he had set at the Landmark Conference Championships on May 8.
For the women's track and field team, junior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) set a new personal best and finished ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.59m (five feet, 2.5 inches), just edging her previous career best of 1.55m that she set on May 1 at the Blue Jay Tune Up Meet.
Brockport won the team title on the men's side with 84 points, while the Geneseo women rolled to the team title with 149 points.
