SELINSGROVE, Pa. - It was a banner day for The University of Scranton women's track & field team Saturday at the 2021 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships, as the Royals registered their highest finish ever at the Landmarks, finishing fifth overall.
On the day, the Royals tallied 92 points to finish fifth. Moravian captured the Landmark Conference title with 220.5 points, followed by Elizabethtown with 161 total points.
Here are some highlights for the event for Scranton.
- Four different Royals registered second-place finishes in four different events to lead Scranton on the afternoon.
- First, in the 3000-meter steeplechase, senior Emily de Onis (Blue Town, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) earned a silver medal after finishing in a time of 11:49.53.
- Next in the 5000-meter run, junior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) crossed the finish line in 18:42.27 to earn a runner-up finish.
- In field events, junior Christina Piscitelli (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) was second in the hammer throw with a toss of 117 feet, six inches. This was followed by a runner-up finish by fellow junior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) in the high jump with a final mark of 4 feet, 11.75 inches.
- The Royals' final silver medal came in the shot put, where freshman Alex Ferrador (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) finished second with a 35 foot, 6.50-inch effort. The mark shattered a school record in the shot put, as well.
- Elsewhere, junior Ally Maniscalco (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) earned a bronze medal in the pole vault with a final clearance of eight feet, six inches to break her own school record in the event. Scranton's other bronze came in the 1000-meter run, where junior Lindsay Notarianni (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) crossed the finish line in 40:47.55.
- Rounding out the top finishers on the day for Scranton was senior Hannah Tracy (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) in the javelin, who placed fourth in 117 feet, eight inches, and sophomore Meghan Winter (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) who finished fifth in the triple jump with a 33 feet, 8.75-inch effort.
- Both Royals relay teams also registered fifth-place finishes, as the 4x100 relay team crossed the line in 52.15 (a new school record) and the 4x400 relay squad finished in 4:32.15.
