SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) broke her own program record and won the 5,000 meters to lead the efforts for The University of Scranton women's track and field team at the Susquehanna Invitational on Saturday in Selinsgrove.
Below are some of the highlights for the Royals from Saturday's meet.
- Hoffmann cruised home in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:10.65, surpassing her own indoor program record by nearly 12 seconds and winning the event by nearly 17 seconds ahead of Catholic's Paige Wilderotter who took second in 18:27.26.
- Hoffmann's winning time is the fastest time in the Landmark Conference this season and the sixth fastest in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
- Jessica's younger sister, freshman Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) took fourth in the mile with a time of 5:28.77 and sophomore Olivia Tullman (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) finished fifth less than a second later in 5:29.41, while junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) took seventh in the 200 meters in 27.81.
- Senior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) tied for third in the high jump with a mark of 1.57m and classmate Ally Maniscalco (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) matched her own indoor program record in the pole vault at 2.90m.
The University of Scranton women's track and field team is back in action on Friday at the SU Tune Up that will be hosted by the River Hawks beginning at 4 p.m.
