SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) won gold in the mile to pace The University of Scranton men's track & field team at the Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Susquehanna University.
McKeon crossed the line nearly two seconds ahead of the nearest competitor to win his first conference title with a time of 4:22.60. It was his best time of the season and helped the Royals to a fifth place finish with 34 points. Susquehanna won the team title with 189 points.
McKeon's time ranks 10th in the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region heading into next week's regional meet. He also added a fourth place in the 3000-meters with a time of 8:51.23, two seconds off his season best.
Sophomore Timothy Lanahan (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) finished close behind McKeon in third in the mile with a time of 4:24.56, his best mile time of the season. He was also fifth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:01.02, less than a second off his best time of the season.
Sophomore Kyle Muirhead (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished fourth in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 6.43 meters, his best mark of the season. He was also part of the 4 x 200 relay that finished fourth in a school-record time of 1:37.32. He was joined on the relay team by junior Nathan Bowen (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and sophomores Riley Adams (Douglassville, Pa./Berks Catholic) and Anthony Baez (Hartsdale, N.Y./Fordham Prep).
The Royals will compete in the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field meet on Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5, at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y.
