Hoffmann, Maniscalco Notch Gold Medals to Lead Women's Track & Field at Landmark Indoor Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) broke a pair of Landmark Indoor Championship records and classmate Ally Maniscalco (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) won gold in the pole vault to lead the efforts for The University of Scranton women's track and field team at the conference championship meet that was hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday.

Hoffmann won gold in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters on Saturday as the Royals finished fifth in the team standings with 66 points. Susquehanna won the team title with 144 points.

The individual event titles marked the first Landmark titles of the respective careers for Hoffmann and Maniscalco.

Here are some of the Royals' highlights from Saturday's meet.

  • Hoffmann won the 3,000 meters with a Landmark championship record time of 10:20.69, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Her winning time surpassed the previous Landmark championship record of 10:23.02 that had been set by Natalie Novotni of Moravian in 2020.
  • In the 5,000 meters, the Millington, N.J., native cruised home in 17:56.00, smashing her previous personal best time by more than 14 seconds and more than 22 seconds ahead of Susquehanna's Kallan Carter who finished second in 18:18.97. Hoffmann's winning time eclipsed Novotni's previous championship record of 18:04.43 that had also been set in 2020.
  • Maniscalco won the pole vault with a mark of 3.05m, breaking her own indoor program record of 2.90m that had been set earlier this season. The senior cleared the 3.05m height on her first attempt.
  • Elsewhere for the Royals, sophomore Alex Ferrador (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) broke her own indoor program record and took home a silver medal in the shot put with a mark of 10.97m, while senior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) finished second in the high jump (1.57m) and fifth in the long jump (4.91m).
  • Junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) surpassed her own program record in the 200 meters as she finished fifth in 27.17 seconds.
  • Freshman Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) placed fourth in the 800 meters in 2:27.28 and senior Megan Gorman (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph Hill Academy) took fifth less than a second behind Hoffmann in 2:27.65.
  • In the Distance Medley relay, Scranton notched a fourth place finish as the quartet of sophomore Olivia Tullman (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School), freshman Andreina Solano (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury), senior Emma Connolly (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) and sophomore Paige Hennigan (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) crossed the finish line in 13:40.50.

The University of Scranton women's track and field team will return to action next weekend at the All-Atlantic Regional Championships that will be hosted by Nazareth College on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5.
