SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) broke his own program record and won the 3,000 meter steeplechase to lead the way for The University of Scranton men's track and field team at the Jim Taylor Invite that was hosted by Susquehanna University over the weekend.
The meet marked the beginning of the outdoor season for the Royals.
Here are some of the highlights from Saturday's meet
- McKeon won the steeplechase event with a time of 9:35.91, surpassing his previous personal-best and program record time of 9:44.82 that he had set on May 5, 2019.
- The senior also broke his own program record in the 5,000 meters in 15:14.77 to finish third in the event. McKeon's 5,000 meter time broke the previous record clip of 15:48.82 that he had set on April 10, 2021 at the Greyhound Invitational.
- Sophomore Timothy Lanahan (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) registered a seventh place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.02 and also broke the program record in the 1,500 meters in 4:07.93, eclipsing the previous record time of 4:08.96 that had been set by Chris Baldwin on May 5, 2018.
The Royals return to the track for the Muhlenberg College Invite on Saturday, April 2 in Allentown, Pa.
