DALLAS, Pa. – Seven members of The University of Scranton women's track and field team posted top five finishes at the Misericordia Twilight Meet that was hosted by the Cougars on Tuesday night at the Anderson Outdoor Sports Complex in Dallas.
Here are some of the Royals' highlights from the meet.
- Sophomore Alex Ferrador (Hazlet, N.J/Raritan) took second in the hammer throw with a new personal-best mark of 38.28m, third in the discus (31.57m) and also added a fourth place finish in the shot put with a program record heave of 10.93m. Senior Katherine Fafian (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) took home fifth place in the hammer throw with a mark of 36.72m.
- Junior Ashley Benham (Portland, Conn./Portland) took third in the 400 meter hurdles in a new personal-best time of 1:12.35 and classmate Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) added a bronze medal finish with a time of 26.36 seconds in the 200 meter dash.
- Scranton added a second place finish in the 4x100 meter relay as the quartet of Gonzalez and fellow juniors Fiona Burke (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), Jasmine Ahmed (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and Lauren Tokash (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) crossed the line in 51.64 seconds to break the previous outdoor program record of 52.15 that had been set on May 8, 2021.
- Senior Meghan McGonigle took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.52m and classmate Ally Maniscalco took second in the pole vault at 2.95m.
- Burke also tallied a fifth place finish in the 100 meters in 13.42.
The Royals return to the track this weekend for the Bucknell Outdoor Classic with action getting underway on Friday afternoon at 1:45 p.m.
