EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) set a new pair of program records and won gold in both the 1,500 and 3,000 meters to lead the way for The University of Scranton women's track and field team on Saturday at the All-American Meet that was hosted by East Stroudsburg University.
Here are some of the highlights from Saturday's meet for the Royals.
- Hoffmann captured the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:46.18 and won the 3,000 meters in 10:13.12 to set new program records in both events. Her winning time in the 1,500 broke her previous program best time of 4:51.74 and her time in the 3,000 surpassed the previous outdoor program record of 10:53.01 that had been set by Abigail Corrigan on April 21, 2018.
- Junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) finished third in the 400 meters with a program record time of 59.04 seconds and freshman Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) took bronze in the 800 meters in a program best time of 2:20.41. Gonzalez broke her own program record of 1:00.00 in the 400, while Hoffmann surpassed the previous 800 meters record of 2:22.14 that had been held by Nikki George since May 5, 2019.
- The Royals' 4x400 relay team of juniors Katherine Welby (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep), Gonzalez, Ashley Benham (Portland, Conn./Portland) and Abigail Sheehan (Wyckoff, N.J./Academy of the Holy Angels) finished fifth in a program-record time of 4:21.22.
The University of Scranton women's track and field team returns to the course on Saturday, April 30 at the Paul Kaiser Classic that will be hosted by Shippensburg University.
