SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) set a new meet record in the 3,000 meters to lead the efforts for The University of Scranton women's track and field team on Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Classic that was hosted by Shippensburg University.
Here are some of the Royals' highlights from Saturday's meet.
- Hoffmann won the 3,000 meters in a new program and meet record time of 10:00.71, surpassing the previous meet record of 10:04.77 that had been set by Shippensburg's Neely Spence in 2009.
- Fellow senior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) finished tied for second in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.61m as she cleared the height on her second attempt.
- Jessica's younger sister, freshman Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) took third in the 1500 meters as she crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 4:49.77, more than eight seconds ahead of the second fastest Division III competitor.
- Junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) finished 10th in the 200 meters in a time of 26.26 seconds and sophomore Alex Ferrador (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) broke her own program record in the shot put with a mark of 11.36m for a 10th place finish of her own.
The Royals return to the course next weekend for the Landmark Conference Championships that will be hosted by Juniata on Saturday, May 7 & Sunday, May 8.
