Box Score

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior right-hander Josh Lydon (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) allowed just one hit over five shutout innings and The University of Scranton baseball team (17-3-1) plated six runs in the second en route to a 7-3 win over the King's College Monarchs (7-12) on Tuesday afternoon at Lipo Field in Wilkes-Barre.

The victory marked the eighth straight for the Royals.

Lydon fanned two over his five innings of work to earn his second win of the season and fellow senior righty Luke Hoey (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) was just as impressive in relief with a career-high four strikeouts over 2 2/3 shutout innings.

Scranton got on the board with the afore-mentioned six run second inning as a pair of Monarch errors led to three runs and graduate student Kevin Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) provided the big blow in the inning with a two-run double.

Andrew Steidle was dealt the loss for King's as he allowed four unearned runs while walking four and fanning two in 1 1/3 IP.

The Royals tacked on their seventh run of the day in the fourth inning as senior Jake Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) singled, advanced to third on Johnson's double and scored on sophomore John Zarnowski's (East Brunswick, N.J./St. Joseph's) RBI double.

King's plated three in the seventh to cut into the deficit at 7-3 behind a two-run double from Brennen Schneider.

Johnson was 2-2 with a pair of doubles and two RBI on the afternoon as the Whitehouse Station, N.J., native sits one hit shy of 100 for his career with 99. Lisicky added a hit, walk and two runs scored in the victory.

Scranton also stole six bases in the contest.

The Royals are back in action on Thursday afternoon at Keystone with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
