Gonzalez Breaks Pair of Program Records to Lead Women's Track & Field at Messiah Invitational

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Three members of The University of Scranton women's track and field team recorded second place finishes to lead the Royals at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday.

The Royals finished ninth in the team standings with 40 points and Dickinson won the team title with 113 points.

Below are some of the highlights from Saturday's meet.

  • Junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) finished second in the 400 meters in 1:00.00, breaking the previous program record of 1:03.35 that had been set by Emily Way on April 14, 2018 by nearly three seconds. Gonzalez also added a fourth place finish in the 200 meters in 26.36 seconds, breaking her own program record time of 27.00 from May 1, 2021.
  • Sophomore Catriona Corbett (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) added a second place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:00.03, a new personal-best time by more than 13 seconds.
  • In the field events, senior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.56m, while sophomore Alex Ferrador (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) finished eighth in both the shot put (10.57m) and hammer throw (36.91m).

The Royals return to the track on Tuesday for the Misericordia Twilight Meet with action getting underway at 2:30 p.m.
