CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) of The University of Scranton women's track and field team won the 5,000 meters with a personal-best and program record time at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet that was hosted by Widener University on Monday night at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium in Chester.
Hoffmann captured the 5,000 meters in a time of 17:07.39, nearly seven seconds faster than her previous personal-best and program record time of 17:14.24 that she had registered at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Apr. 15.
Two other members of the Royals' men's and women's track and field programs also competed on Monday.
Senior Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a new personal-best and program-record time of 9:20.17, surpassing his previous best of 9:23.43 that he had set at the Landmark Conference Championships on May 8.
Freshman Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) registered a 17th place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:47.54, less than a second off of her personal-best of 4:46.73 that she had set at last weekend's Landmark Championship meet.
The Royals return to the track on Wednesday and Thursday of this week for the AARTFC Regional Championships that will be hosted by Moravian University.
