HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) broke a Landmark championship record in the 10,000 meters to lead the way for The University of Scranton women's track and field team on Day One of the conference championship meet at Juniata's Knox Stadium on Saturday.
The Royals sit fourth in the team standings with 26 points after five events.
Here are some of the highlights for the Royals from Day One.
- Hoffmann won the 10,000 meters in a time of 38:17.57, nearly 39 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Her winning time broke the previous Landmark Championship record of 38:32.72 that had been set by Catholic's Camila Mayfield in 2012.
- This also marks the third time this year that Hoffmann has broken a championship record after she did so in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters during the indoor season.
- Jessica's younger sister, freshman Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) earned a bronze medal in the 1,500 meters in a personal-best time of 4:46.73.
- Junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) qualified for tomorrow's 200 meter final with a fourth place finish in the prelims in a new program-record time of 26.19 seconds. Gonzalez eclipsed her own program record of 26.24 that had been set on April 23 of this season.
- Fellow senior Lindsay Notarianni (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) took fourth in the 10,000 meters behind Hoffmann with a personal-best time of 39:03.54, while classmate Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.86m.
- In the 100 meter hurdles prelims, juniors Ashley Benham (Portland, Conn./Portland) and Jasmine Ahmed (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) both qualified for tomorrow's final with times of 17.73 and 17.77, respectively.
Action on Day Two of the Landmark Conference Championships will get underway on Sunday at 11 a.m.
