HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Sophomore Timothy Lanahan (Mendham, N.J/Mendham) and senior Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) both registered gold medal performances for The University of Scranton men's track and field team on Day Two of the Landmark Conference Championships on Sunday at Juniata.
The Royals finished fifth in the team standings with 58 points as Susquehanna captured the team title with 229 points in the two day meet.
Below are some of the Royals' highlights from Sunday's action.
- Lanahan won the 800 meters in a personal-best time of 1:55.21, just ahead of Elizabethtown's Brandon Baxter who took second in 1:55.66. The gold medal was the second in as many days for Lanahan who won the 1,500 meters on Saturday.
- McKeon broke his own program record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and took home gold in a time of 9:23.43, surpassing his previous-best time of 9:31.19 that he had set at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Apr. 15.
- The Royals' 4x100 relay team of junior Nathan Bowen (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and sophomores Riley Adams (Douglassville, Pa./Berks Catholic), Anthony Baez (Hartsdale, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and Kyle Muirhead (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished third with a program record time of 43.89 seconds.
- Elsewhere for Scranton, sophomore Shervin Mokhtari (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) added a sixth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a program record time of 59.32 seconds, while classmate Angelo Catapano (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) finished seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.78m.
The Royals return to the track on Wednesday, May 18 for the AARTFC Regional Championships that will be hosted by Moravian University.
