HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) broke a Landmark Championship record in the 5,000 meters, while junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) added a gold medal of her own in the 400 meters to lead the charge for The University of Scranton women's track and field team on Day Two of the Landmark Conference Championships on Sunday at Juniata.
The Royals finished fifth in the team standings with 108 points as Moravian took the team title with 162 points.
Here are some of the Royals' highlights from Day Two.
- Hoffmann won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:20.02, more than 43 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. This marks the second time in as many days that she has broken a Landmark Championship record as she accomplished the feat with a victory in the 10,000 meters on Saturday.
- Gonzalez captured her first career Landmark Championship gold medal as she took the 400 meters in 58.39 seconds, just edging out Catholic's Anna Walcutt (59.18) and Moravian's Crystal Robinson (59.45). Gonzalez's winning time broke her own program record of 59.04 that she had set at the All-American Meet on Apr. 23 and the junior also added a fourth place finish in the 200 meters in 26.21 seconds.
- Senior Ally Maniscalco (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) posted a second place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.05m, while classmate Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) took third in the high jump at 1.58m and sophomore Alex Ferrador (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) added a bronze medal of her own in the shot put with a mark of 11.22m. Ferrador also finished fourth in the hammer throw with a program-record mark of 39.48m.
- Junior Jasmine Ahmed (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) added a fifth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 17.33 seconds and freshman Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) took fifth in the 800 meters in 2:21.06.
The Royals return to action on Wednesday, May 18 for the AARTFC Regional Championships that will be hosted by Moravian University.
