BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Several student-athletes from The University of Scranton men's and women's track & field programs competed on day one of the Mountain Hawk Opener that is being hosted by Lehigh University this weekend.
Senior Alex Ferrador (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) placed sixth in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 12.74m and junior Alex Schmitz (Greenbrook, N.J./Watchung Hills) posted a 14th place finish with a personal-best mark of her own at 11.40m.
In the long jump, freshman Madeline Samar (Exton, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) registered a mark of 4.70m for an 11th place finish and sophomore Molly White (Scranton, Pa./Holy Cross) finished 13th with a mark of 4.61m.
On the men's side, sophomore Philip Danchik (Woodbine, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and senior Matthew Ginnetti (Pipersville, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) tied for seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35m.
Junior Brendon Arcara (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) notched an 11th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.74m, while senior Angelo Catapano (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) took 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 12.02m and junior Stefen Pastor (Middle Village, N.Y./Maspeth) placed 13th at 11.68m.
Action on day two of the Mountain Hawk Opener gets underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
