SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Graduate student Luke Shannon (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) won the 800 meters to lead the efforts for The University of Scranton men's track & field team on Saturday at the Landmark Conference Championships that were hosted by Susquehanna University.
The Royals finished fifth in the team standings with 49 points as the host River Hawks won the team title with 215 points on the day.
Here are some of Scranton's highlights from the meet.
- Shannon won the 800 meters in a time of 1:58.88, just edging out Catholic's Kendrick DuPree who finished second in 1:59.27. Sophomore Christian Snee (Olyphant, Pa./Mid Valley) also added a third place finish in the event for the Royals with a time of 2:00.22.
- Snee also posted a fifth place finish in the mile as he registered a time of 4:26.59 to pick up four points for Scranton.
- Senior Nicholas Gershey (South Abington Township, Pa./Scranton Prep) finished fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:11.42.
- In the field events, freshman Tony Hairston (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) broke his own program record in the triple jump as he leaped to a third place finish with a mark of 13.76m, surpassing his previous record of 13.26m. Hairston also added a seventh place finish in the long jump at 6.41m.
Scranton will return to action next weekend for the AARTFC Regional Championships that will be hosted by NYU beginning Friday at 10 a.m.
