MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Senior Nicholas Gershey (South Abington Township, Pa./Scranton Prep) finished third in the 5,000 meters to lead the way for The University of Scranton men's track & field team on Saturday afternoon at the Messiah Invitational.
The Royals finished 20th in the team standings with 11 points as the host Falcons captured the team title with 135 points.
Here are some of Scranton's highlights from Saturday.
- Gershey finished third with a time of 15:33.03, his second fastest time of the season.
- Sophomore Christian Snee (Olyphant, Pa./Mid Valley) added a 10th place finish in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:59.25 and also set a personal-best in the 1,500 meters in 4:08.50 to take 13th place.
- In the 400 meter hurdles, junior Shervin Mokhtari (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) broke his own program record as he finished eighth in a time of 58.60 seconds.
- The Royals finished fifth in the 4x400 relay as the quartet of senior Nathan Bowen (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull), freshman Nathanael Walker (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), freshman Brendan Perez (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and senior Stephen Postupak (Dallas, Pa./Scranton Prep) with a season-best time of 3:38.92.
- In the field events, junior Kyle Muirhead (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.28m and classmate Matthew Ginnetti (Pipersville, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) took 12th in the pole vault at 3.45m.
The Royals are back in action next weekend for the Coach P Invitational that will be hosted by Moravian University beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
