Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale to Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Scranton baseball team (27-11) dropped a 6-0 decision to the Catholic University Cardinals (30-10) in the regular season finale on Friday at Talbot Field in Washington, D.C.

The Royals have clinched the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament that will get underway on Friday, May 10 at Volpe Field in Scranton.

Catholic's five-run first inning on Friday proved to be the difference in the game as Logan Eilbacher knocked in a run with an RBI double and Mitchel Johnson plated a pair with a two-run single. The Cardinals were able to take advantage of three Scranton walks in the inning.

Senior lefty Matthew Moreira (Union, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) was dealt the loss for the Royals as he allowed the five runs on three hits and walked three.

Roman Tozzi earned the win for Catholic as he gave up one hit to go along with two walks and six strikeouts in 7.0 IP.

For Scranton, sophomore righty Matt Scepkowski (Normandy Beach, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) turned in an impressive outing in relief as he scattered five hits and struck out four over 4 2/3 shutout IP. Senior lefty Matt Roda (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) followed with a scoreless relief outing of his own as he struck out one and did not allow a hit in 1 2/3 IP.
