ITHACA, N.Y. — The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team earned a pair of event victories from senior Aviah Dahlgren and posted several strong performances on Saturday at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium, competing in a tri-meet against host Ithaca College and Hartwick College.
Scranton defeated Hartwick College by a score of 207-92, but fell to host Ithaca, 218-82.
Dahlgren led the Royals with two dominant distance victories, sweeping both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:07.29) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.85) to headline Scranton's top individual efforts.
Sophomore Alyssa Bean turned in an impressive day in the backstroke events, finishing second in both the 100 backstroke (1:02.23) and the 200 backstroke (2:13.62). Junior Kimberly Gingrass added a second place finish in the 500 free (5:28.92) and a third-place finish in the 200-free (2:02.73).
The Royals opened the meet with a solid relay performance as Gingrass, Sami Roerig, Bean, and Amelia Griffin placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.15). Griffin also delivered strong individual swims, placing second in the 100 freestyle (55.99) and fourth in the 50 freestyle (25.75).
Sophomore Olivia Thomas added a second-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle (11:19.27) and took fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:32.40), while junior Sami Roerig contributed points in both breaststroke events.
In diving, senior Nicole Stofko led the Royals with a fourth-place finish on the 3-meter board (193.70) and a fifth-place showing on the 1-meter (183.70).
The Royals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face Catholic University in Landmark Conference competition.
