SCRANTON, Pa. – After a breakout week that featured three strong performances to open her collegiate career, freshman guard Sophia Talutto has been selected as Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Talutto made an immediate impact in Scranton's early-season win over No. 7 SUNY Cortland, scoring seven points while adding rebounds, assists, and defensive pressure as the Lady Royals earned a 69–50 victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
She followed that effort with her best scoring outing of the week in Thursday's 87–46 victory at New Jersey City University, finishing with a team-high 15 points, including three three-pointers. Talutto also contributed defensively, adding a steal and helping disrupt NJCU's backcourt.
Talutto added another poised effort in Sunday's exhibition win at Division I Pittsburgh, supplying key offense off the bench and helping the Lady Royals secure a 69–63 victory with a dominant 25–13 fourth quarter. She scored eight of her 14 points during the final period.
Scranton returns to the floor on Wednesday at 7 p.m., traveling to take on Drew University in its first Landmark Conference matchup of the season.
