MADISON, NJ -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team cruised to a 71-48 victory over Drew in the team's first Landmark Conference game of the year Wednesday night in Madison, N.J.

How it Happened
- The Royals started off the night strong, opening the game with a six-point run in the first two minutes of the first quarter thanks to two layups from junior Katie Gorski and a pair of free throws by senior Kaci Kranson.
- Scranton continued to keep up the pace, outscoring Drew 14-3 over the next five minutes to extend its lead to 20-3. Kranson made a three-point shot, junior Meghan Lamanna scored five points and hit one three-pointer, and junior Elizabeth Bennett recorded four points during the stretch.
- Drew got within 13 after a layup from Brenna Hezel and a jumper from Amy Rachilla, but Bennett responded with a jumper and a three pointer on back-to-back possessions to give Scranton an 18-point lead at 25-7 heading into the second period.
- The Royals carried that momentum into the second quarter. Senior Kaeli Romanowski went two-for-two from the free throw line, Kranson laid one up and in, Lamanna connected on a three ball, and Kranson added another two points as Scranton opened the quarter with a 10-0 run.
- The Rangers battled in the final four minutes of the half, but Scranton continued to outpace them as the Royals took a 44-15 lead into the break.
- Scranton opened the third quarter with another run, outscoring Drew 8-0 in the opening six minutes of the period. Gorski led the way during the stretch with four points, and Lamanna and senior Jenna Sloan each scored two points to extend Scranton's lead to 52-15.
- Scranton carried a 57-27 lead into the fourth period, but Drew found a rhythm and outscored the Royals 21-14 in the final 10 minutes of the game, but it came too late as Scranton won 71-48. In the fourth quarter, Kranson led the team with six points.
