No. 3 Women's Basketball Falls to Elizabethtown in Regular Season Finale, 70-64

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought battle to Elizabethtown College in the final game of the regular season on Saturday.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Elizabethtown - 70, No. 3 Scranton - 64

How it Happened
  • The Blue Jays opened up the game on a 9-2 run to take an early seven point lead.
  • Scranton trailed 13-5 with just over two minutes remaining in the first period but fought back to tie the game up at 13-13 after sophomores Meghan Lamanna and Elizabeth Bennett combined for eight straight points.
  • Elizabethtown scored a bucket in the final 15 seconds of the first to hold a 2 points advantage headed into the second quarter.
  • Back-to-back threes from juniors Kaeli Romanowski and Kaci Kranson gave the Lady Royals a 23-20 advantage with 6:39 left in the first half. 
  • Another three from Kranson gave Scranton its biggest lead of the game at the 4:07 mark in the second, 30-25.
  • Elizabethtown closed the first half with a 7-2 run to tie the game up at 32-32 headed into the break. 
  • The Blue Jays came out strong to start the second half, scoring 11 unanswered to take a 43-32 lead with five minutes remaining in the third.
  • Scranton cut the deficit to eight at the 2:18 mark but ETown regained an 11 point lead at the end of the third period. 
  • The Lady Royals came fighting back to start the fourth, as a three from graduate student Maddie Hartnett at 7:38 capped off an 11-2 run to bring Scranton within two.
  • Elizabethtown responded with an 8-0 run to regain a 10 point advantage with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.
  • Great defense and some timely buckets got Scranton within three at the 2:34 mark, 65-62.
  • The Blue Jays hit five clutch free throws and the Lady Royals struggled to create offense in the final two minutes of action as ETown went on to win 70-64.
Top Performers
  • Kranson paced Scranton with 21 points.
  • Romanowski added 14 points and six rebounds.
  • Hartnett scored 12 and recorded four boards.
Inside the Box Score
  • Scranton struggled from three-point range at 6-27 (22.2%) while ETown went 8-14 (57.1%). 
  • The Blue Jays' bench out scored Scranton's bench 24-11.
