SELINSGROVE, PA -- The University of Scranton baseball team split the opening two games of the Landmark Conference series against Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: Scranton - 13, Susquehanna 1
How it Happened
- Susquehanna scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
- Scranton leveled the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth as junior Conor Campbell scored on an RBI by senior TJ Pleban.
- The Royals put up seven runs on two hits and one error in the top of the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. Graduate student Matthew Querey hit a two RBI double to center field that scored Campbell and senior Pat Coyne. Pleban drove in two more runs with a single to center that scored Querey and freshman Joey Granko.Â
- Scranton tacked on three more runs to take an 11-1 lead in the top of the sixth, including an RBI single to center field from junior Logan Mason.
- Mason hit another RBI single in the top of the seventh to put Scranton ahead, 13-1.
- The Royals ended the game by mercy rule after holding a 13-1 lead following seven innings.
Top Performers
- Sophomore Mason Fischer got the start on the mound and pitched four innings while allowing just one hit and one earned run to record his second win of the season.
- Senior Dominic Chieffalo entered the game in relief and pitched three shutout innings while allowing just one hit to post his first save of the season.
- Pleban registered a team-high three RBI while Querey and Mason each added two.
- Granko went a perfect 3-3 at the plate.
Game 2: Susquehanna - 13, Scranton - 3
How it Happened
- The River Hawks scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead.
- Susquehanna added six more runs in the bottom of the third, including a three run homer to take a 9-0 lead.
- The River Hawks led 10-0 following three innings of play.
- Scranton scored all three of its runs in the top of the fourth on pitching mistakes by Susquehanna.
- Susquehanna tallied two runs in the sixth and one run in the bottom of the seventh to end the game by mercy rule, 13-3.

- Junior Aidan Casey went 2-4 at the plate.
- Querey and Granko each recorded an RBI.
