SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton baseball team defeated Marywood University, 9-4, for its first win of the season on Wednesday evening at Volpe Field.

How it Happened
- Scranton exploded for six runs off Owen Reilly in the first inning, sending 10 batters to the plate in the frame.
- After Aidan Casey led off the inning with a walk, Matthew Gannon followed with a single, and John Heitzman tripled to drive in both runners and give Scranton an early 2-0 advantage. Conor Campbell added an RBI single to bring home Heitzman, and three batters later, after back-to-back hit-by-pitches loaded the bases, Jimmy Lundari cleared them with a double to push the lead to 6-0.
- Matt Holgado made the start for Scranton, tossing two scoreless frames with one strikeout and allowing just one hit in his first appearance since 2024.
- Marywood scored a pair of runs in the third inning on a two-out single to cut Scranton's lead to four runs.
- Scranton added a run in the fifth inning when Lundari drove in Joey Granko with a sacrifice fly, marking the Royals' seventh run of the game and Lundari's fourth RBI of the night.
- With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Gannon scored in a wild pitch to give Scranton an 8-2 advantage.
- The Pacers scored a run in the seventh on a fielder's choice, but Scranton responded in the bottom of the eighth with a run of its own, as Heitzman delivered an RBI single to score Gannon, who had doubled in the previous at-bat.
- Marywood added a run in the ninth inning, but it was too little, too late as the Royals held on to win their first game of the year, 9-4.
