How it Happened

  • The two teams remained scoreless through the first four innings before Scranton broke through in the 5th inning. Vincent Napolitano reached base and later scored on an RBI single from James Nitti to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
  • John Heitzman added to the advantage in the 6th inning with a solo home run to right field, making the score 2-0.
  • Elizabethtown threatened later in the inning after loading the bases with one out, but TJ DiMattia entered in relief and helped Scranton escape the jam by getting a force out at home before inducing an inning-ending groundout.
  • The Blue Jays got on the board in the 7th inning to cut the lead to 2-1, but Scranton answered in the bottom of the 8th. Matthew Gannon singled to begin the rally before Aidan Casey drove in a run with a single to center field. Later in the inning, Conor Campbell drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • Elizabethtown scored once in the 9th inning, but Logan Mason closed out the victory to secure the conference championship.
  • Matt Holgado tossed 4.2 scoreless innings in the start, while Ryan Boyd earned the win out of the bullpen. Kieran Lodewick struck out four batters over two innings of relief before Mason earned the save.
  • Campbell finished with two hits and an RBI and was named Landmark Conference Championship MVP after recording six hits and four RBIs during the tournament. Campbell also broke Scranton's single-season hits record during Saturday's win over Susquehanna.
  • Casey and Mason each added multi-hit performances as the Royals collected 11 hits in the championship-clinching win.
