John is The University's primary instructor for the Graduate Program in Healthcare Administration’s online program for National and International Administrative Healthcare Internships.  He also teaches residential Graduate and Undergraduate course work in Health Administration and Human Resources. Additionally, he has developed and teaches Global Healthcare System coursework in Africa. Wiercinski also serves as Chair of the Executive In Residence Program, which assists graduate and undergraduate students with the practical application of coursework, provides insight about the Health Care Industry, and enhances the students’ knowledge about opportunities in the profession of Health Administration. 

Prior to his retirement in 2017, Wiercinski had been associated with Geisinger Health System since 2005-first serving as Chief Administrative Officer at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre and then promoted to Regional Vice President for Geisinger Northeast.

Before joining Geisinger, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer at Shamokin Area Community Hospital; Senior Vice President for Operations at Bradford Medical Center in Bradford, PA; and Director for the Bureau of Planning for the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Wiercinski also served as Assistant Administrator and Captain with the United States AIr Force Hospital at Dover Air Force base in Delaware.

He earned a Master's Degree in Hospital and Health Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and his Bachelor of Science in Human Services/Counseling at The University of Scranton. A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Mr. Wiercinski is also the past Regional Pennsylvania Delegate to the American Hospital Association. Active in the community, John is a current Board member of the St Joseph Center Development Board and Lackawanna/Susquehanna Behavioral Health/Intellectual Disabilities Program.  He is also past Chair of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, Lackawanna College, and Heritage Valley Partners.
