Box Score TOWSON, Md.—The University of Scranton ended its 2010
season on a positive note, erasing an early 1-0 deficit to pull out
a 2-1 victory in overtime against Goucher College in Landmark
Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Playing in the final game of her career, senior forward
Kaitlyn
Tirney (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made it a
memorable one, scoring the game-winning goal off of a penalty
corner in the 71st minute as the Royals won their second straight
game to end the season with a 7-12 record, including a 2-4 mark in
the conference. Goucher, which took a 1-0 lead on a goal by
Sara Spadanuta in the 15th minute, fell to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in
the conference.
Trailing 1-0 at intermission, the Royals finally tied it up in
the 51st minute on a goal by sophomore back Corinne
O'Kane (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara). She
tapped in a rebound off of a scramble in front of the net for the
first goal of her career.
Junior goalkeeper Alexandria
Marandino (Granby, Conn./Northwest Catholic) made two
saves to earn her seventh victory of the season.
Tirney, who led the Royals with a career-best seven goals this
season, ends her career with 18 goals and nine assists for 45 total
points, which is 19th on Scranton's all-time scoring list. It
was also the final game for seniors Corrie
Szapka (Northampton, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic),
Emily
Deubler (Dallas, Pa./Lake Lehman), Liz
Mauer (Eagleville, Pa./Archbishop Carroll),
Tara
Winter (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), Beth
McLaughlin (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South), and
Roxanne
Kuzio (Moorestown, N.J./Holy Cross).
