MADISON, NJ—The University of Scranton field hockey team could not slow down Drew University’s high-scoring offense in a matchup of two of the top three teams in the Landmark Conference Saturday afternoon.

Behind two goals and two assists from Brooke Gagliano and two goals from Sarah Charles, the Rangers cruised to a 4-1 victory, snapping the Royals’ season-long winning streak at seven and dropping Scranton to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Landmark Conference.  Drew, which also received two assists from Danielle Waleko, improved to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Sophomore defender Jessica Pankey (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) converted a penalty stroke for a goal in the 29th minute for Scranton after the Rangers scored three times in the opening 23 minutes of play.

The Royals out-shot the Rangers, 18-15, but Drew goalkeeper Chrstiana Carlini frustrated Scranton throughout the afternoon by making a game-high 10 saves.  Sophomore Krista Mundy (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) made four saves in goal for Scranton, which will return to action this Thursday, October 18, against Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

With today’s win, Drew University moves into a tie for first place with nationally-ranked Catholic University while Scranton is now one game behind with two league games remaining.  The Rangers have now won seven straight and have out-scored their opponents, 29-3, during this span.
