After allowing just one goal in two matches, including her seventh
shutout of the season, junior goalkeeper Kelsy McAnelly (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria
Academy) has been named the Landmark Conference
women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the period
ending Sunday, Oct. 14.
McAnelly, who was a second-team all-conference selection last
season, allowed one goal in a 1-0 loss at Western Connecticut State
on Wednesday, Oct. 10. She made three saves in the defeat.
Three days later, she made a season-high six saves in a 0-0 tie
in double overtime against Drew University on Saturday, Oct. 13.
She made two of those saves in the second overtime, including a
sprawling save just before the ball crossed the goal line early in
the period to preserve the tie. The victory improved the Royals to
5-6-3 overall and kept them in first place at 2-0-1 in Landmark
Conference play.
Her seven shutouts are tied for 15th-most in a single season in
Scranton history. She has 17 career shutouts, the sixth-most in
Scranton history.
On the season, McAnelly has played every minute in goal for
Scranton, a total of 1334:25. That total ranks her 27th in all of
NCAA Division III.
Scranton is back in action today when they travel to Bethlehem,
Pa. to face Moravian in a key Landmark Conference match at 4
p.m.
