WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior goalkeeper Kelsy McAnelly (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria
Academy) made a career-high 12 saves as The University of
Scranton women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie in double
overtime at Catholic University on Saturday afternoon.
McAnelly made seven saves in regulation, one in the first
overtime and four in the second overtime. She picked up her ninth
shutout of the season, tied for eight-most in a single season in
Scranton history, and 19th of her career, the fifth most in school
history.
Scranton is now 6-6-4 overall and 3-0-2 in Landmark Conference
play. The Royals are currently in first place in the conference and
can secure the top seed in the upcoming conference playoffs with a
win or a draw at home against Juniata on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Catholic (6-7-2, 2-1-1) held a 21-17 advantage in shots while
the Royals held the edge in corner kicks, 4-1. Sophomore midfielder
Katie O'Hanlon (Rockville Centre,
N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) led the Royals with four shots
while junior forward Samantha Russo (Yorktown Heights,
N.Y./Yorktown) had three.
Freshman goalie Lexi Halperin (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley)
made four saves while picking up her fourth shutout for the
Cardinals.
The four draws this season are the most for the Royals in a
single season since they went 8-4-6 in 1986.
Scranton returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 24, when it hosts
Misericordia University at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
