WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Sophomore Julia Crilly (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
and senior Jenell McFadden (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy
Academy) combined for 33 kills, 32 digs, and eight service
aces to lead The University of Scranton volleyball team to a 3-1
victory over Lycoming College in non-conference action Tuesday
evening at Lamade Gymnasium.
Crilly finished with 18 kills, 21 digs, and four service aces and
McFadden had 15 kills, 11 digs, and four service aces as the Royals
won their second straight match to improve to 11-4. Shelby
Gear and Jackie Oliva combined for 21 kills for the Warriors, who
fell to 8-4 on the year.
The Royals won the first two sets convincingly before the Warriors
finally came untracked. Lycoming took the third set, 25-22,
and nearly bounced all the back from a 23-19 deficit in the fourth
set before Scranton closed it out on a kill by Crilly and another
by junior Michaela McCrudden (Fort Washington, Pa./Mt. St.
Joseph), who finished with seven kills and four digs.
Scranton also received eight kills from sophomore Kristin Keegan (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon
Central), 15 digs from senior libero Marissa Every (East Norriton, Pa./Mt. St.
Joseph), and senior setters Emily
Keim (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Juli
Woods (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) combined for 40
assists.
Crilly’s ‘double-double’ in kills and digs was
her ninth of the season and McFadden’s was her sixth.
The Royals return to action this Friday and Saturday, September
21-22, at the University of Chicago Invitational Scranton
plays Heidelberg Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and Carroll (Wis.)
later that evening at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Royals meet
Chatham at 10:00 a.m. and Mt. Union at noon.
